What is Private equity?

Private equity is a commonly known as a equity investment in an asset in which the equity is not freely tradeable on a public stock market. More accurately, private equity refers to the manner in which the funds have been raised, namely on the private markets, as opposed to the public markets.

As the company offering the equity is not listed on an exchange, investors owning such securities will normally “exit” or sell out” by way of an initial public offering (IPO) or alternately via a trade sale.

Initial Public Offering or (IPO) investments have the potential to yield high returns, however they do involve a higher degree of risk. We undertake to ensure that all our clients fully understand the risks involved before making an investment within the private equity arena.

Most of these opportunities have a minimum investment level. As such, many investors choose to purchase shares in a number of businesses in order to spread their risk across different companies and market sectors.

Risk Warning
There is an extra risk of losing money when shares are bought in some smaller companies . There is a big difference between the buying price and the selling price of these shares. If they have to be sold immediately, you may get back much less than you paid for them. The price may change quickly and it may go down as well as up. Past performance will not necessarily be repeated and is no guarantee of future success. Investors should carefully consider their own personal financial circumstances before dealing in the stock market. Investors should pay due regard to their specific investment objectives, investment risk profile or financial background. For this reason, AIM quoted shares may not be suitable for all investors, and if you have any doubts, you should consult an independent financial adviser.
